Veal calf: life imprisonment in a crate
The following pictures were taken in Israel on spring-summer 2001
Miserable calves in crates
Battery cabins used for fattening
Lack of movement prevents muscle development
The head is trapped in a bolt
No contact or touch is possible
The calf fattens and the crate becomes too narrow
Licking the bolts to get some iron
Despite the medicine: chronic diarrhea and ringworm
Nothing to do the whole day, every day
Despite the thirst they prefer touch
A few minutes of contact per day
In a short time the bolt will close
Thirsty: drinking more from the fattening mixture
